Q.Do I need to post a privacy policy?
If you collect any data from your customers, including collecting addresses for shipping, you are legally required almost everywhere to post a privacy policy on your website to explain how you use that information. Your privacy policy should include answers to the following questions:
- What information do you collect? (name, address, phone number, email address, payment information)
- When do you collect information? (order placement, newsletter subscription, inquiry submission...)
- Do you use cookies? (If you use Google Analytics, explain this here)
- How do you use information? (order fulfillment, improving your service...)
- Do you disclose this information to anyone else?
- When and where does the user consent to giving you the information, and how do they opt out? (generally on using the website, and they can opt out by not using the website)
You can also choose to include other information, such as information about the security of your website and information about third-party services, such as the credit card processing service you use. Ideally, a privacy policy should be relatively concise and easy to read. There are many online privacy policy generators available on the internet.
