Q.What is the difference between variations and customization?

Item variations are set by item and allow the customer to select between different similar items. Generally, these are items that you already have in stock, such as different sizes or different colors of the same item. Item variations are set by item at the item registration page, as each item is likely to have slightly different available variations.

Customization templates allow the customer to specify closely what kind of item they want. This includes things like custom inscriptions, as well as tailor-made clothing. In this case, the item is not in stock beforehand, but is specially made for the customer after the order has been placed. Customization operates via customization templates, which are sets of different options that the customer can specify. One customization template can be applied to multiple items.

Variations and customization can be applied to the same item. For example, if you sell business suits, you might set variations for material and color, but use customization to allow the customer to request specific measurements.
